Defeat Happening was one of the truly seminal and influential American rings from the post-punk period, a paragon of pop minimalism, rebellious innocence, and indie defiance. The linchpin from the Olympia, Washington-based International Pop Underground, they followed a position in immediate opposition towards the recognized norms in the centre of rock and roll music; overlooking all notions of pretense, professionalism and reliability, and stardom, Defeat Happening made an unorthodox, fresh audio that democratically rotated vocal, electric guitar, and drum responsibilities between associates while jettisoning bass entirely.
