Beat Boys

Created by Argentinean musicians in São Paulo (São Paulo) in the mid-’60s like a vocal/instrumental rock and roll group, the Defeat Boys were a significant reference in an instant when Tropicália had been geared, because they offered the rock and roll spirit that Caetano Veloso wanted at his iconoclastic appearance on the III Festival de Música Popular Brasileira/FMPB (Festival of Brazilian Popular Music Festival, Paramount Movie theater, TV Record, São Paulo, 1967), when their performance of “Alegria, Alegria” (Caetano Veloso) provoked virulent reactions with the audience which were amplified throughout public opinion and yielded a proclaimed polarization between nationalists and transnationalists against the guitar. That model of the celebration represented the very first time in which rock and roll music was shown in an identical situation blended with Brazilian well-known music. Combined with the Defeat Boys, the Operating-system Mutantes was the various other rock and roll group present at the function, associated Gilberto Gil on “Domingo no Parque.” The Defeat Males also participated in the documenting of “Alegria, Alegria” with Caetano Veloso.
