BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra

The BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1935 by composer and conductor Ian Whyte. At that time, it had been the initial full-time orchestral ensemble in Scotland; it has become among five full-time BBC orchestras and among Britain’s leading orchestras. At its founding, it had been a little ensemble principally employed for broadcasting, but Whyte battled to determine it as a really Scottish ensemble focused on marketing music by Scottish composers.
