Bavu Blakes

Bavu Blakes is originally from Dallas, but after going to the School of Tx in Austin, he stayed in “The Live Music Capital of the Globe” to keep his own music tag. A conversational MC with the capacity of both directed criticism and witty lyricisms, Blakes’ exclusive style is certainly intellectual without having to be boring. Quite simply, his beats remain restricted. Blakes was instrumental within the additional establishment of Austin’s nascent hip-hop picture with the forming of HIPHOP Humpday. A loose collective of DJs, MCs, music artists, and performers, Humpday was constructed around Blakes, Tee Dual, and Holder God. Each Thursday at Membership Mercury on Austin’s 6th Road, the Humpday staff would present freestyle fights, live music, shows, and the very best monitors from around the world. It had been a hodgepodge of unpredictability, but one which backed the city’s burgeoning picture. In 2002, Phrase4Phrase released Create & Hustle, Blakes’ debut full-length. An idea album of kinds, the album offered the lifestyle of Blakes like a battling designer grappling with a hard globe. Critiques of hip-hop tradition and much more personal occasions intersected with downtempo grooves and live jazz instrumentation, producing for a good debut. In Feb of 2003, Blakes made an appearance as a visitor MC on Hydroponic Audio System’s Synthesis EP.
