Bastro was the more prominent of guitarist David Grubbs’ two immediate post-Squirrel Bait tasks (the concurrently jogging Bitch Magnet getting another). Grubbs originally became a member of the Louisville, KY-based Squirrel Bait while still in senior high school, and was in fact among the oldest associates of the group; when he and bassist Clark Johnson still left for university, it successfully spelled the finish from the music group after two essential releases. Grubbs visited Georgetown School in Washington, D.C., and produced an early edition of Bastro in 1987 with bassist Dan Treado, who shortly left. Despite the fact that Clark Johnson had opted to Chicago, he and Grubbs reteamed because the brand-new primary of Bastro, and pursued a far more twisted and abrasive design of post-hardcore punk than their previous music group.
