Biography

Before Willie K. rocked the hawaiian islands and Keali’i Reichel wooed and earned Japan — also before Don Ho sang of small bubbles — there is Barney Isaacs (name Alvin Kalanikau Isaacs Jr.). A diminutive guy with a popular family members name and an undeniable skill all his personal, Isaacs enjoyed an extended and illustrious profession as Hawaii’s “ambassador of metal acoustic guitar.” He used a few of Hawaii’s best music artists and can be an example to Hawaiian music artists of today. Isaacs was created in 1924. His dad, Alvin Kaleolani Isaacs Sr., was the bandleader for the Royal Hawaiian Serenaders, an extremely popular dance music group that experienced a residency within the Royal Hawaiian Resort in the earliest times of Hawaiian travel and leisure. Alvin Sr. ensured that Barney and everything nine of his siblings experienced instruments devote their hands while these were virtually still within the cradle. Three of the kids — Barney, Norman, and Atta — created a lifelong enthusiasm for music. This they indulged collectively, beneath the approving vision of their dad. When Barney was 24, he became a member of his father’s music group and began his profession as a global Hawaiian celebrity. He toured around, collaborated with a great many other Hawaiian music artists including Alfred Apaka and Gabby Pahinui, and documented literally a huge selection of parts. Notable releases consist of Hawaiian Touch as well as the initial two of the ubiquitous Hawaiian Slack Essential Electric guitar compilations, which still are available in any isle record store. Isaacs had not been just an musician though. He was also energetic in numerous other areas from the music picture. He appreciated a permanent placement on Hawai’i Phone calls (a favorite local radio present) for 25 years. Within the ’50s, he became familiar with the various other side from the A&R table, performing a stint in general management at Waikiki Information. Isaacs was a favorite isle artist who left out a long lasting legacy. You can find few, if any, Hawaiian performers from days gone by 50 years who’ve not really been affected or affected for some reason by his function.
