Biography
The Banda Dark Rio was formed in 1976 with the later Oberdan (Oberdan Magalhães). Seen as a a sound where tempo & blues offered as the automobile for danceable variants incorporating the gafieira design, samba, and jazz, the music group got in its adjustable development, the trumpeter José Carlos Barroso, drummer Luís Carlos dos Santos, keyboardist Jorge Valdir Barreto, guitarist Cláudio Stevenson Jorge, and bassist Valdecir Ney Machado, amongst others. Their initial strike was the samba-funk “Maria Fumaça,” released in the eponymous LP (WEA, 1977). The tune was the theme of the cleaning soap opera Loco-Motivas (Television Globo). Documenting originals and variations for tracks like “Na Baixa perform Sapateiro” (Ary Barroso) and “Casa Forte” (Edu Lobo), these were compared within the customized press to various other soul-funk rings like Kool as well as the Gang and Globe, Wind and Fireplace, having achievement in England’s dance homes in the past due ’90s. The music group recorded two even more LPs — Gafieira general (RCA,1978) and Saci Pererê (RCA 1980) — until 1980, if they dissolved.
