Baba Sehgal

In India, one performer dominates the rap picture: the Lucknow-born Baba Sehgal. Baba Sehgal’s rap is usually far taken off the sting and grit of General public Foe, Ice-T, or, to consider a good example of rap transplanted into another vocabulary, French wit MC Solaar. Sehgal’s secure, inoffensive pop/rap utilizes a cutesy-pie picture with cheeky Hindi lyrics about hobnobbing with Madonna on calling. Interjections of the Hinglish character (a member of family of Japlish, the apparently dyslexic or arbitrary plucking of British words and phrases in adverts or on bomber spencer or baseball hats in Japan), like “5 star resort,” “Adam Connection,” “Madonna is certainly a good friend of mine,” abound. Superstardom is certainly his self-professed objective. Regardless of the transparency of his goals, his is certainly a rare example of non-filmi achievement in India.
