Avishai Cohen

Given birth to and raised in Israel, Avishai Cohen offers often combined Middle Eastern and Israeli music with both electric powered and acoustic jazz. Cohen began monitoring the piano at age group 11 and was 14 when he became thinking about jazz. After playing piano inside a high-school jazz music group, Cohen switched towards the electrical bass and quickly fell deeply in love with the music of Jaco Pastorius. Cohen was 16 when he signed up for the Music & Arts SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL in Jerusalem, so when a adult, he performed a few regional gigs in Jerusalem before becoming drafted in to the Israeli military. When Cohen’s 2 yrs in the armed service ended, he could focus on jazz once more and made a decision to try the acoustic bass, which became his primary instrument for a lot of the 1990s. In 1992, Cohen relocated to NY with no any real contacts there, and finished up spending the rent performing moving and building function. But after producing some contacts in the brand new York jazz picture, Cohen continued to try out live gigs with such notables as Ravi Coltrane, Wynton Marsalis, Joshua Redman, Paquito D’Rivera, Roy Hargrove, and Leon Parker. One of is own most fruitful organizations was with Panamanian pianist Danilo Perez, who used him on his 1996 program, Panamonk. After arriving at the eye of Chick Corea and his longtime business partner, Ron Moss, Cohen was authorized to their Stretch out label and documented his first recording, Adama, in 1997. The next year, Corea employed Cohen to try out in his recently created acoustic clothing, Origin. Colors premiered in middle-2000, accompanied by a string of recordings for the RazDaz label. Lately, Cohen has relocated back again to Israel.
