Arvell Shaw

Featured using the Louis Armstrong All-Stars during many periods, Arvell Shaw was arguably Armstrong’s finest bassist and the only real musician in his group that was inspired for an extent by bebop. Shaw performed tuba in senior high school before switching to bass. He used Destiny Marable on riverboats in 1942, is at the Navy during 1942-45 and is at Louis Armstrong’s last big music group (1945-47). Alongside drummer Sid Catlett, Shaw was maintained following the orchestra split up and became a genuine person in the Louis Armstrong AllStars, very easily the youngest member at age group 24. Although he spent 1950-52 off the street, completing his musical research, Shaw rejoined Armstrong during 1952-56, touring the entire world and showing up on many recordings with Satch until he remaining in 1956. Shaw caused Russ Case at CBS, was using the Teddy Wilson Trio, performed in the Brussels Globe Good with Benny Goodman in 1958, remained in Europe for a couple years and rejoined Goodman for his Latin American tour of 1962. Shaw spent another period back again with Louis Armstrong (1962-64) and rejoined him briefly several times later within the 10 years. Normally, Arvell Shaw (who hasn’t led his personal record day) is a freelancer in the brand new York area since, playing with a number of all-star mainstream organizations and in the 1980’s touring having a display titled “THE BEAUTIFUL Globe Of Louis Armstrong.”
