Roland Hackl, Karin Steger, and Andreas Kinzl (aka DJ Scott) composed the Viennese trio Aromabar, a soft, slightly progressive trip-hop clothing which was unafraid to marry feeling with conventional track structures. Just like a chilled-out Saint Etienne, both traditional acoustic and digital instruments were frequently used, routing the tunes toward unexpected defeat territory, as with 1999’s “Africa for European union” or the sub-kitsch of the cover of Nick Kamen’s “I Guaranteed Myself,” which experienced already been a popular among many Euro-dance remixers.
