Årabrot

A shape-shifting and sonically challenging sound rock device from Norway, Årabrot’s incendiary mixture of avant-garde dark metal, experimental rock and roll, post-punk, and doom/sludge steel invokes brands as diverse as Big Dark, the Melvins, Beliefs FORGET ABOUT, Swans, as well as the Birthday Party. Produced in 2001 and called after a garbage dump in the band’s hometown of Haugesund, Årabrot’s generating force is certainly guitarist, songwriter, and vocalist Kjetil Nernes, with large contributions via electronic noise musician Stian Skagen, aswell as companies Billy Anderson, Steve Albini, and Emil Nikolaisen — the group provides released a set of EPs and LPs beneath the moniker Nernes/Skagen aswell. The group released a trio of albums via Norway Rat Information, like the Grammy-nominated, Albini-produced Sibling Seed, before inking a cope with Fysisk Structure in ’09 2009 and launching the I Rove EP. A set of critically acclaimed full-length outings implemented, 2010’s Revenge and 2011’s Solar Anus, the last mentioned of which gained the group a Norwegian Grammy Prize in the steel category. The eponymous Årabrot found its way to 2013, accompanied by a trilogy of EPs: Murder As Artwork, Modi, so you Couple of Idiots. Soon after the discharge of the initial EP, Nernes was identified as having a malignant type of neck cancer. Aside from a finding a brutal six weeks of treatment for the condition, he continuing to tour and record during this time period, and in early 2016 Årabrot released a whole new full-length outing, Gospel.
