Aquasky

Originally from Bournemouth yet afterwards transplanted to London, Kieron Bailey, Brent Newitt and Dave Wallace result from a generation of junglists with neither a strict concentrate on breakbeats nor a good fusion of jungle with many other styles (hip-hop, reggae, jazz, etc.). The trio’s recordings as Aquasky possess encompassed a variety of designs, some using the pristine jazzy experience of LTJ Bukem productions, others for Shifting Darkness that hark back again to the initial hardcore heart of drum’n’bass, but still others using a hip-hop bottom — and vocals from real rappers, including Big Shug from Gang Starr. The three had been all school-chums from an early on age group, though their pathways ultimately separated; Bailey performed drums for a number of steel and funk rings, Newitt grew into an electro/hip-hop enthusiast and break-dancer, and Wallace became a creation tech-head inspired by Kraftwerk as well as the Artwork of Sound. All three had been producing monitors (Bailey as Jazziac Sunflowers, Newitt as Artinis, Wallace as an engineer for both) if they made a decision to reunite in 1993 beneath the umbrella of Britain’s drum’n’bass motion. Naming themselves Aquasky, the trio documented a complete dozen singles from 1993 to 1996 — for Shifting Shadow, Reinforced, Dark on Dark, Blue Bazique and their very own Aqua Information — then offered a remix for the Artwork of Noise’s Drum & Bass Collection. The mini-LP Orange Dirt surfaced in 1997, accompanied by their full-length debut Bodyshock 2 yrs later on. Besides their alias recordings as Spirit Purpose and Skindivers, Wallace in addition has documented as himself for Shifting Shadow and everything Good Vinyl.
