The Helsinki, Finland quartet Apocalyptica were initially made up of classically trained cellists Eicca Toppinen, Maximum Lilja, Antero Manninen, and Paavo Lotjonen; created in 1993, the group produced waves internationally in 1996 with Takes on Metallica by Four Cellos, which mixed their formal history with their like of rock.
