Antoni Wit

Within the latter quarter from the twentieth century, Antoni Wit was categorised as by critics probably one of the most underrated conductors of his time. Certainly, he had several acclaimed recordings to his credit and kept distinguished conducting articles in Poland, but continued to be largely small known before new century. Maybe he previously unwittingly impeded his profession by championing the music of several modern Polish composers: Penderecki, Wojciech Kilar, Krysztof Meyer, Eugeniusz Knapik, and more information on others. But Wit’s selection of repertory eventually have been, and continues to be, wide, with particular concentrate on the functions of Schumann, Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Mahler, Rachmaninov, Bartók, Prokofiev, along with a spate of others. Antoni Wit was created in Krakow, Poland, Feb 7, 1944. He enrolled in the Krakow Academy of Music, where his most significant teachers had been Henryk Czyz (performing) and Penderecki (structure). He previously further trained in Paris in the Ecole Normale de Musique with Pierre Dervaux, and studied structure with Nadia Boulanger (1967-1968). From 1967-1969 Wit was an helper to Witold Rowicki on the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra. After further research in performing at Tanglewood with Stanislaw Skrowaczewski and Seiji Ozawa in 1973, Wit was appointed creative director from the Pomeranian Philharmonic Orchestra (Poland), keeping the post from 1974-1977. Wit following offered as director from the Krakow-based Polish Radio and Tv Orchestra and Chorus from 1977-1983. During his tenure there, Wit premiered many essential new functions, like the Penderecki Lacrimosa (1980). From 1983-2000 Wit offered as director from the Country wide Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Katowice. It had been with this ensemble that Wit provides made the majority of his recordings. His 2000 Naxos Compact disc of Messiaen’s Turangalîla Symphony, using the Country wide Polish RSO, received the Cannes Classical Award at Midem Classique 2002. Through the 1980s and ’90s, Wit also positively freelanced throughout the world, conducting main orchestras in Berlin, Dresden, London, Dublin, Rome, Budapest, Barcelona, Tokyo, Montreal, and Mexico Town. Wit also executed the Orquestra Filharmónica de Gran Canaria from 1987, initial as artistic movie director (until 1988), after that as going to conductor (1988-1992). From 2002 Wit provides offered as general and creative director from the Warsaw Country wide Philharmonic Orchestra. Among Wit’s recordings may be the 2008 Naxos Compact disc of Quantity 1 of the Symphonic Poems of Mieczyslaw Karlowicz. In 2008, his Naxos documenting of Penderecki’s Symphony No. 7, using the Warsaw Country wide Philharmonic Choir as well as the Warsaw Country wide Philharmonic Orchestra, was nominated for the Grammy Award within the category of greatest choral performance.
