The meeting of varied creative minds from the Kranky Information family led to the slow-to-form entity that had become referred to as Anjou using the release of their first self-titled album in 2014. The trio was produced by former associates of Labradford — Tag Nelson and Robert Donne — along with percussionist Steven Hess. All three associates from the trio have been energetic since Labradford’s tranquil put on a hiatus around 2001, Nelson functioning under the Skillet American moniker, Donne playing in Cristal, and Hess using Fennesz, Locrian, among others. The trio spent four years crafting the meticulously edited mixture of organic and digital noises of their debut, merging an internet of modular synthesizers, live instrumentation, and thick coding for the dreamy and foreboding areas of instrumental noises that constructed their debut. 3 years afterwards, the duo came back with Epithymia.
