Angela Patuá

Afro-Brazilian folksinger, guitarist, and percussionist Angela Patuá got involved with show business in the middle-’70s while doing work for a circus company called Circo Actual de Bengala. Shifting to Rio de Janeiro in 1986 to go after an acting profession, Patuá also sang back-up for Caruza and Flavio Venturine, among additional local performers. In 1991, Angela Patuá relocated to the U.S., touring New Orleans’ golf club scene, shifting to Miami in 1995. Performing in various Brazilian indigenous dialects, Portuguese and British, Angela Patuá’s debut record, known as Brasil Bantu, premiered by self-employed label Out There. In 1999, visitors of Miami’s New Instances voted her Greatest Latin Vocalist. In 2001, her EP The Push of sunlight was released.
