Andy Metcalfe


Andy Metcalfe was a founding person in the Soft Children and comprised fifty percent of the Egyptians, Robyn Hitchcock’s well-known college radio music group in the ’80s. Alongside Morris Windsor, Metcalfe supplied steady tempo and accomplished support vocals behind Hitchcock. Metcalfe’s flexibility was not restricted to use Hitchcock, as his post-Egyptian profession was filled up with cameo performances and creation credits. Metcalfe was created in 1956 in Bristol and went to university in Cambridge, where he produced Dennis & professionals with Hitchcock. In 1976, the music group transformed its name to the Soft Children and released an EP known as Provide It to the Soft Children. After some aborted record sessions, the music group released its initial record, A Can of Bees, in 1979. Metcalfe lent bass and vocals towards the decidedly Beefheart-ish affair, but still left the band soon after its discharge, and therefore had not been associated with the band’s discovery LP, 1980’s landmark Underwater Moonlight. In past due 1984, Metcalfe reunited with Hitchcock and previous Soft Young boys drummer Morris Windsor to create Robyn Hitchcock & the Egyptians.
