Andy Guthrie


b. 20 January 1965, Camberwell, London. Through the 90s Guthrie was associated with a few of the most interesting and long lasting dance music of that time period. At college he learned traditional music and afterwards played rock and roll, funk, reggae, bhangra as well as other styles in several bands. He started writing his very own tunes on the sequencer and four-track recorder in the home and eventually did some function programming for Isle Records. Through the past due 80s Guthrie became thinking about dance music and in 1989 co-founded Banco De Gaia with Toby Marks. He done the first Globe Dog Records discharge, the 1993 EP Desert Blowing wind, and eventually over the albums Maya and Last Teach To Lhasa and he begun to focus on his very own work. He previously formed Medication Drum with Chris Dekker around 1993 and was making such rings as Children FROM THE Bong and Senser. As 100th Monkey he produced his single debut with ‘Spiritus’ on Matsuri Productions in 1995. The next calendar year, with Jaki Kenley (of 21-3 Productions), Guthrie come up with the charity compilation Earthtrance for Positiva Information that he added the monitor ‘Invocation’ (with Medication Drum) along with a remix of Banco De Gaia’s ‘Kincajou’ (with Si Outrageous). At exactly the same time he caused Eat Static (Bony Incus EP) with Tsuyoshi Suzuki for the Prana record Geomantik. He provides continuing to record with Medication Drum and Prana and in 1997 released his initial EP (Skwirm/Skweel) for 21-3 Productions, as Funkopath. With Medication Drum Guthrie attracts on ‘globe music’ resources, while Funkopath and Prana possess a purer psychedelic trance appear with a cool edge. Unlike very much dance music which revolves around repetition and set up formulas, his function is often seen as a mixed textures and grooves, and probably the most complete, original production. Various other work contains remixes for Bentley Tempo Ace and Digitalis, and collaborations with Tag Allen, Manmademan, Tristan and Procedure. In addition to writing and making, he shows music technology and DJs dub and trip-hop pieces as 100th Monkey.
