Andrew W.K.

Biography

Not really a party pet but a celebration guerrilla, Andrew W.K. burst onto the picture having a cross of metallic, pop, and dance that parodied and paid tribute towards the cheesiest, sleaziest areas of all three designs. The California-born, Michigan-bred W.K. — the initials are a symbol of from “Light Killer” to “Females Kum” to “Wilkes-Krier,” the surnames of his father and mother — began traditional piano lessons at age group four and shifted to playing in Detroit punk and steel bands, like the Pterodactyls. By age group 17, W.K. was saving his own materials. After shifting to NEW YORK a season later, his close friends handed down his demos to several labels, including Light bulb, who released W.K.’s debut EP, Young ladies Own Juice, in early 2000 which fall’s Party Til You Puke EP. The hype around W.K.’s hedonistic, so-dumb-it’s-smart rawk led to a gig starting for the Foo Fighters in addition to deals with Isle/Def Jam within the U.S. and Mercury within the U.K.; his initial major-label discharge was 2001’s anthemic Party Hard EP. Specifically, the U.K. fell deeply in love with W.K.’s ironic trailer-trash appearance and audio, inspiring critical raves from NME and Kerrang! in addition to hysteria at his concert events; he was hospitalized following a lover head-butted him as he crowd-surfed at his London debut in the Highbury Garage area. The full-length I Obtain Wet found its way to late 2001 within the U.K. and in springtime 2002 within the U.S., where his “It is time to Party” was found in a Television industrial for the travel site expedia.com. Andrew W.K. also gigged thoroughly that springtime, both by himself and as section of an MTV 2 bundle tour. He came back in 2003 using the Wolf, a larger, lusher recording than his debut that gained mixed reviews. The next yr, W.K. managed an advice display on MTV 2, Your Friend, Andrew W.K. He also managed his occupied tour routine, and released the concert film Who Has learned? in early 2006. Andrew W.K.’s third recording, Close Phone calls with Brick Wall space, premiered in Japan and South Korea that summer season, and was released within the U.S. like a vinyl-only recording by Load Information in 2007. That summer season, he also made an appearance as a visitor celebrity on Kathy Griffin’s tv program My Life within the D List. That yr, he also created the Lee “Scuff” Perry recording Repentance. Andrew W.K.’s profession only became even more eclectic because the 2000s drew to some close. In 2008 only, W.K. founded a Manhattan golf club, Santo’s Party Home; performed using the Calder String Quartet; and released One-Shot Video game: Addresses, a assortment of J-pop cover music, and I’LL Change YOUR DAILY LIFE, an anthology of his assistance columns for Japanese music newspaper Rockin’ On. He also joined up with the group Current 93, adding bass, piano, electric guitar, and vocals with their 2009 record, Aleph at Hallucinatory Hill and performing in the band’s tour that springtime. Around that point, W.K. released Damn! The Mixtape, Vol. 1 and his Toon Network live-action demolition present Destroy Build Destroy premiered. He also became a regular visitor in the Fox Information show Red Eyes and appeared in the VH1 series THE FANTASTIC Debate. In past due summer months 2009, his record of “spontaneous single piano improvisations,” 55 Cadillac, premiered with the Skyscraper Music Machine label, which also prepared to provide Close Phone calls with Brick Wall space a U.S. discharge on Compact disc. Around that point, W.K. also released Gundam Rock and roll in Japan, which highlighted his versions from the music towards the common anime Gundam to commemorate the series’ 30th wedding anniversary. Close Phone calls with Brick Wall space finally made an appearance on Compact disc in wide discharge this year 2010 being a arranged with Mom of Mankind, a disk of rarities and previously unreleased songs. The following yr, W.K. released a Japan-only EP, Party All Goddamn Night time, which featured a variety of fresh and previously released materials; in 2012, he celebrated the 10th wedding anniversary of I Obtain Wet having a luxurious edition featuring a supplementary level of live and unreleased tunes.

#Quote
1 If you can make someone laugh and cry and feel like they can take on the world, ultimately that's the field of entertainment I want to work in. It's the human experience. There's moments for cuddling a small cat and moments for throwing the cat around the room and running around in circles with it.
2 [on 'conspiracy theories', including charges that he has allowed other performers to stand in for him] You know, the whole problem with a lot of this stuff and the reason been trying - and I've been trying - to deal with it in different ways is that a lot of these things that people have run with were based initially on some kind of truth. And that's what makes them harder to either completely deny or turn away. But it's never been anything - what's the word - 'malevolent'.
