Among the oldest dynamic jazz trumpeters (performing nearly to the finish of his lifestyle), Andy Blakeney never became a significant name but was good respected in the wonderful world of New Orleans jazz. Blakeney’s initial major work was a short one, fourteen days in Chicago with Ruler Oliver in 1925. He caused Doc Cook and in 1926 shifted to California, documenting with Sonny Clay and Reb Spikes in 1926. Blakeney freelanced in L.A. (including with Les Hite and Lionel Hampton) and spent amount of time in Hawaii, playing in 1935-39 with Monk McFay’s Five Clouds and leading his very own band. After time for the mainland in 1941, Blakeney caused Ceele Burke’s big music group (1942-46), Horace Henderson (1946) and Child Ory (1947). In the future, Blakeney mainly led his very own Dixielandoriented rings in California, which sadly never documented. He was using the “TEENAGERS Of New Orleans” in 1960 and in the middle-1970’s toured using the Legends Of Jazz. Andy Blakeney documented using the Eagle Brass Music group in 1984 and was still playing as he handed down his 90th birthday in 1988.
