1 Classically trained as violinist and composer, student of Olivier Messiaen at the Conservatoire de Paris. Later took up jazz composition and arranging. Co-founded the Jazz Groupe de Paris in 1954. Worked on a number of film scores and led his own orchestra in the 1960's.
