Heavily influenced with the confessional alternative folk stylings of Ani DiFranco, Anaïs Mitchell began writing songs when she was 17. Delivered in Vermont, she went to Middlebury University and traveled through the entire Middle East, Latin America, and European countries learning global politics before alighting in Austin, TX, in the first 2000s. She released her initial album, The Tune They Sang When Rome Fell, in 2002. Mitchell performed on the Kerrville Folk Celebration the following season, where she was honored with the brand new Folk prize. Her second record, Hymns for the Exiled, arrived on Waterbug Information in 2004, along with a duplicate eventually produced its method to DiFranco herself. The folk icon went to some of Mitchell’s shows and provided her a offer at Righteous Babe Information immediately after. The Lighting, Mitchell’s debut on that label, found its way to Feb 2007. In 2006, Mitchell debuted her “folk opera” Hadestown in cooperation with arranger Michael Chorney and movie director Ben T. Matchstick in line with the Greek misconception of Orpheus and Eurydice and occur a futurist poverty-striken America. Another draft was performed with the a group known as the Hadestown Firm in 2007. An record entitled Hadestown with performances from Greg Dark brown, DiFranco and Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon premiered on Righteous Babe in March of 2010.
