Amy Annelle makes quietly beautiful music that blends Americana and sadcore designs, hushed vocals, highly poetical lyrics, and “present noises.” The Portland, OR, musician found the Northwest from Chicago, starting up with Portland “anti-rock” label Hush Information release a her debut record, Which One’s You, in 1999. That work was accompanied by the likewise lo-fi (in cases like this, taped on the four-track) College of Secret Problems in Oct of 2001. (The record name was pinched from writer John Steinbeck.) Your time and effort garnered further evaluations of Annelle to such likewise minded artists because the Cowboy Junkies, Beth Orton, and Elliot Smith. Annelle can be a vocalist for Portland group the Locations, who released their debut, The Autopilot Has learned Greatest, in 2000.
