Amor Belhom Duo

Ahead of moving to Tucson, AZ, in 1997, Gabriel Naïm Amor and Thomas Belhom had explored a number of musical designs in Paris, France, 1st within the hardcore punk outfit Witches Valley, after that as members from the experimental music/theatrical avant-garde politics activist stage group Era Chaos. Once resolved in Tucson, the set arranged to collaborating with not merely one another, but additionally regional Calexico stalwarts Joey Burns up and John Convertino, in addition to French filmmaker Marianne Dissard (movie director of the Large Fine sand documentary Drunken Bees). Amor and Belhom offered the soundtrack to Dissard’s French tv documentary Low Con Great in 1995; Dissard later on returned the favour by adding lyrics for just two from the duo’s albums, Wavelab and Amor Belhom Duo. Amor (vocals, electric guitar, violin, and samplers) and Belhom (percussion, drums, accordion, and vocals) documented their collaborative debut, Wavelab Efficiency, at its eponymous Tucson studio room in-may 1998. The record supplied a sonic glance in to the duo’s alternately pensive and propulsive French avant-pop; it had been initially released in the duo’s very own Normandie Fantasy label. Pursuing an opening slot machine on Sparklehorse’s Western world Coastline tour in early 1999, the set came back to Wavelab in-may of that season to record their self-titled follow-up, released the next year in European countries in the French label Ici D’ailleurs. Amor Belhom Duo was eventually released in the U.S. by Carrot Best in 2001, as was its forerunner (basically retitled Wavelab upon its re-release). Amor Belhom Duo toured incessantly throughout 2000, writing the stage with, amongst others, David Grubbs, Quentin Rollet, Noel Akchote, Calexico, and Large Sand. The entire year also noticed the appearance from the Amor, Belhom, Melts away, Convertino — aka ABBC — record Tete a Tete, released in the U.S. on Wabana Information. Other recordings with the set have appeared over time, either exclusively in European countries (Reside in Tucson) or at displays (ANY MOMENT IN ANY MANNER). In 2001, Amor released his single debut, Soundtracks (on Portland, OR’s Film Guerrero label), and began a new cooperation with drummer/vibraphonist Jimmy Carr, while Belhom embarked upon a single profession of his very own.
