American Jazz Ensemble

Most widely known for his off-and-on association over time with Dave Brubeck, clarinetist Costs Smith and pianist John Eaton teamed up in 1960 with a set of talented Italians — bassist Erich Peter and drummer Pierre Favre — to create the American Jazz Outfit. Their music appeared towards swing specifications, avant-garde experimentation and Traditional western traditional music for motivation. The group documented an excellent LP for RCA in 1962; back the U.S. in 1963, Smith and Eaton documented a arranged for Epic with bassist Richard Davis and drummer Paul Motian. Another RCA date using the later on personnel was by no means released and, following the group’s separation in 1963, mainly forgotten.
