Alvin Burroughs

A solid golf swing drummer, Alvin Burroughs was considered a very important sideman through the big music group era. He was raised in Pittsburgh and during 1928-29 was an associate of Walter Page’s Blue Devils in Kansas Town. He also caused Alphonse Trent before settling in Chicago. At organizations that Burroughs experienced within the 1930’s had been with Hal Draper’s Arcadians (1935), Horace Henderson (1937-38) & most significantly Earl Hines’ Orchestra (1938-1940), with whom he documented frequently. Burroughs also caused Milt Larkins, Benny Carter (1942), experienced his own music group and spent an interval with Crimson Allen’s leap group (1945-46). After going his own music group again for a couple years, Alvin Burroughs (who by no means led his personal record program) was an associate of George Dixon’s Quartet when he passed away of a coronary attack at age 38.
