Hailing through the free-form jazz and improvised hip-hop root base of SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA, Alphabet Soup emerged quite a distance before having an opportunity to play on the Monterey Jazz Festival. Fronted with the duo MCs of CB and Blake, their politically billed rantings movement to the backdrop of Wilbur Krebs (business lead bass), Sammy Biggers (bass), Kenny Brooks (saxophone), Dred Scott (keyboards), and Jay Street (drums and previously from the Charlie Hunter Trio and Sausage). Using their record collection including Davis, Coltrane, KRS-One, and Open public Enemy, Mammoth Information got notice and released their 1998 debut “Layin’ Lower in the Cut.”
