The Almôndegas (The Meatballs) was the 1st rock-band to be successful from the Rio-São Paulo axis. It had been also the 1st band from the later on popular Kleiton e Kledir. The group was created in 1972 by Kleiton (vocals/acoustic guitar/violin/recorder/harmonica/percussion), Kledir (vocals/acoustic guitar/recorder/percussion), Quico (viola/acoustic guitar/vocals), Gilnei (drums/percussion) and João Batista (vocals/bass/acoustic guitar). In 1973 the Almôndegas experienced success inside a Television special within their house condition, Rio Grande perform Sul, being asked to record their 1st recording, Aqui (1975). The group would still record Almôndegas (1975), Alhos com Bugalhos (1977) and Circo de Marionetes before their parting, having had strikes with “Sombra Fresca e Rock and roll no Quintal” (Zé Flávio), “Vento Negro” (Fogaça), “Almôndegas” (Gilnei/Kledir) and the largest one with “Canção da Meia-Noite”, contained in the cult soap-opera Saramandaia (Television Globo, 1976).
