Albert Ssempeke

The musical traditions from the Baganda folks of Uganda survive the efforts of kadongo kamu (little guitar) player and vocalist Albert Ssempeke. Regarding his music group, Aboluganda Kwagalana, most of whom have already been appointed royal music artists to the ruler, he documented an recording, Ssempeke!, of Buganda’s pre-independence royal courtroom music at Edinburgh College or university in 1988. Eight years later on, he embarked on the two-year tour with Ganda drummer and dancer Samuel Bakkabulindi. For the tour’s end, he and his boy, John, had been interviewed about the function of custom in contemporary Ugandan music, by Dr. Janet Topp Fargion for the Country wide Sound Archive from the British Library.
