Albert Griffiths

Reggae legend Albert Griffiths was created in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica on January 1, 1946, relocating to Kingston 14 years later on. After a group of unsuccessful documenting auditions, he approved a job like a mason; among his co-workers was Leonard Dillon, the frontman from the Ethopians, and collectively, the two performers convinced their company Leebert Robinson to invest in a recording program in the famed Studio room One, using the producing classes yielding Griffiths’ debut “You Will be the Lady, ” released because the flipside towards the Ethiopians’ 1966 smash “Teach to Skaville.” Griffiths after that enlisted David Weber and Errol Grandison to create the Gladiators, rating a minor strike in 1967 with “The Teach Is RETURNING”; singles including “Live Wire, ” “Independence Teach” and “Hello Carol” adopted before Weber exited in 1969, changed immediately after by Clinton Fearon. Classes using the inimitable Lee ‘Scrape’ Perry adopted prior to the trio documented their 1st LP, Showing the Gladiators; Gallimore Sutherland changed Grandison in 1973, and under maker Tony Robinson the group slice several traditional albums of the time, including Trenchtown Blend Up and Proverbial Reggae. Early 1980s attempts including Sign of Fact and Serious Thing preceded the Gladiators’ first U.S. tour in 1983; despite regular line-up adjustments Griffiths continued to be a staple of the group, navigating his method through some well-received produces on Heartbeat.
