Alan Jay Lerner

Biography

American pop lyricist and librettist through the 1940s with the 1960s, Alan Jay Lerner had many movie musical and Broadway successes with songwriting partner Frederick Loewe, including their initial hit, Brigadoon, and their biggest hit, My Reasonable Lady. Lerner was created in N.Con.C. in 1918 right into a rich family; his dad was the founder of Lerner’s, the women’s clothes string. Alan Jay Lerner continued to review at Juilliard, in Britain and, finally, at Harvard, where he had written for university productions. After graduating, Lerner had written radio scripts from 1940-1942, but currently got ambitions for Broadway by enough time he fulfilled composer Frederick Loewe. Therefore began the effective duo of Lerner & Loewe, whose 1st tunes appeared within the 1943 stage creation WHAT’S GOING ON? The duo experienced their 1st achievement four years later on using the Broadway smash Brigadoon. Additional stage and film successes followed, such as for example Color Your Wagon (1951), 1958’s Gigi (an Academy Award-winning rating), and Camelot (1960), but no achievement was larger for the duo than 1956’s My Good Lady, which experienced a record-breaking work of over 2,500 shows. In 1961, Loewe experienced a coronary attack and retired and Lerner teamed up with Richard Rodgers. Lerner experienced teamed up with another composer once before, in 1948, with Kurt Weill for the effective stage creation Love Life. A few of Lerner’s best-known tunes include “Nearly Like Becoming in Like” (1947), “I POSSIBLY COULD Have Danced FOREVER,” “On the road YOUR GEOGRAPHICAL AREA” (1956), “IF I Would Keep You” (1960), and “On the Clear Day YOU CAN VIEW Forever.”
