Al Wynn

Although given birth to in Brand-new Orleans — the birthplace of jazz — Wynn in fact learned to try out in Chicago, where his family had moved when he was a kid. He started trombone while in college and he performed left-handed for a while. Through the ’20s, he used Ma Rainey and Charlie Creath. From 1926-1928, Wynn led his very own group, initial around Chicago, after that in France and Germany. In 1929, he became a member of Sam Wooding’s music group in Spain, staying for approximately a year . 5. He remained in European countries until 1932. Wynn after that moved to NY, where he caused the Bechet-Ladnier Feetwarmers for a short while before time for Chicago. He used various music artists, including Jimmie Noone, Earl Hines, and Carroll Dickerson before signing up for Fletcher Henderson in 1937. He still left Henderson in 1939; afterwards that season, he performed in Noone’s big music group. Wynn freelanced around Chicago for some from the ’40s, also owning a record store and co-owning the Ebony Lounge for a while. He continuing playing through the ’50s with Lil Armstrong, Baby Dodds, and Floyd Jackson, amongst others. He used Franz Jackson from 1956-1960 as well as the Platinum Coast Jazz Music group from 1960-1964. In 1961, Wynn documented with Lil Armstrong so that as a innovator for Riverside’s Living Legends series. He curtailed his musical actions in the middle-’60s because of poor health.
