Al Wynn

Although given birth to in Brand-new Orleans — the birthplace of jazz — Wynn in fact learned to try out in Chicago, where his family had moved when he was a kid. He started trombone while in college and he performed left-handed for a while. Through the ’20s, he used Ma Rainey and Charlie Creath. From 1926-1928, Wynn led his very own group, initial around Chicago, after that in France and Germany.
