Al Viola

A trusted guitarist having a interesting shade, a hard-swinging design, and strong complex abilities, Al Viola have been a secured asset to every program that he made an appearance on, and there were many. Viola performed inside a jazz music group within the Military (1942-45), where he fulfilled Page Cavanaugh. If they both made a decision to proceed to California after their release in 1946, they teamed with bassist Lloyd Pratt to create a trio that was extremely popular during the following three years, showing up in a few Hollywood movies (including “A Music EXISTS”) and documenting regularly. The trio followed Frank Sinatra on the few events during 1946-1947, so when the combo split up, Viola began focusing on and off with Sinatra though 1980. Furthermore, Viola became an extremely busy studio room musician in LA, performing for the soundtracks of the many movies (including playing the prominent mandolin component in The Godfather), tv shows, and advertisements. Among his even more jazz-oriented associations have already been engagements with Bobby Troup, Ray Anthony, Harry Wayne, Friend Collette, Stan Kenton, Gerald Wilson, and Terry Gibbs among numerous others; furthermore to Collette, Viola also documented in the 1950s and ’60s with Jimmy Witherspoon, Helen Humes, and June Christy. In the 1980s, Viola got a reunion with Cavanaugh and quickly they were operating together frequently in a LA area club like a trio with bassist Phil Mallory; this association continuing into the past due ’90s, when Viola decreased from the group. In his profession, Viola led three albums, unaccompanied single dates for Setting (from 1957, reissued by VSOP) and Story, and also a Frank Sinatra tribute recording for PBR (1978); shows of the second option two sets had been reissued on the Compact disc by Starline. Soon after becoming diagnosed, Viola succumbed to malignancy on Feb 21, 2007. He was 87.
