Al Sparks

Al Sparks’s lone contribution towards the comedy saving field came in 1972. A barber by trade, his off-color anecdotes discovered their method onto an record that marketed over 25,000 copies with apparently no advertising whatsoever. Sparks, functioning beneath the alias of O.B. Dark brown, includes a delivery which makes Richard Pryor at his raunchiest audio tame compared. Almost completely in rhyme, Sparks’s unabashed design (using a porno-movie music soundtrack behind him) presages components of rap and showcases accurate ghetto laughter at its finest. Strangely enough, he hardly ever documented a follow-up, so when last noticed from he was still reducing locks in Detroit.
