In 1969, in the Cellar Golf club on 95th St. in Manhattan, Foster got his big break; as he was burning bassist Earl Might inside a quartet, his drumming was observed by trumpeter Mls Davis. Davis employed Foster at that moment as an alternative for Jack port DeJohnette, who was simply after that departing the ever-enlarging Davis band of that period. This certainly would prove an extended dedication for Foster, who performed on every Mls Davis album which range from Big Fun to You’re Under Arrest, and toured with him thoroughly. Foster left Mls Davis in 1985, and since that time has worked separately, sometimes as head, occasionally as sideman. More than his extended and enduring profession Al Foster spent some time working with Cannonball Adderley, Sonny Rollins, Charlie Haden, Thelonious Monk, Freddie Hubbard, Dave Liebman, Herbie Hancock, and Joe Henderson.
