Akwid

Akwid’s Sergio Gomez and Francisco Gomez immigrated to California from Mexico seeing that kids and settled in to the cross-cultural live cable of South Central LA. There they shaped the Juvenile Style DJ staff as teenagers and followed the nicknames “Wikid” (Sergio) and “AK” (Francisco). Enthusiastic about the beats and behaviour of American hip-hop, the Gomez brothers begun to mix that audio with components of traditional Mexican music. Mixing their DJ grips to create Akwid, Sergio and Francisco centered on the banda/rap audio in earnest, rapping in Spanish over street-level beats punctuated by steely blasts from Mexican brass. Putting your signature on to Univision’s music wing, they slipped their full-length debut in June 2003 and noticed its solitary, “No Hay Manera (THERE IS NO Method),” burn the Latin music graphs. By Dec the Proyecto Akwid recording had opted platinum (200,000 copies within the Latin marketplace) and had garnered a Latin Grammy nomination for Greatest Latin Rock and roll/Alternative Recording. Akwid continued to take pleasure from strong promotion into 2004, concluding a promotional tour of Mexico and targeting stateside crossover towards the mainstream.
