Air Waves

When she released her first independent album in 2007, Brooklyn singer/songwriter Nicole Schneit thought we would work beneath the moniker Air Waves, a name inspired with a Guided simply by Voices track. Her skill for a straightforward melody and loosely ramshackle pop audio gained some early admirers including Dan Deacon, who once described her music as “a favorite blanket covered around you.” Affected by acts just like the Clean, the Velvet Underground, and Neil Youthful, Air Waves’ mixture of folk, nation, and lo-fi indie rock and roll caught the hearing of the brand new Jersey-based Underwater Individuals label, which released Air flow Waves’ second LP, Dungeon Dots, this year 2010. The recording was documented by Kevin McMahon at Marcata Documenting, the Walkmen’s house studio, and presented a visitor vocal by fellow Brooklyn songstress Sharon Vehicle Etten. Following a thorough tour routine, Schneit required her time composing a follow-up recording, eventually dealing with Woods member Jarvis Taveniere to record 2015’s Parting Glances, Air flow Waves’ third LP and first for Austin-based label European Vinyl.
