Ah-Kin

The original flute and percussion music of Peru is reflected with the music of Ah-Kin. The high-pitched shades of Gabriela Sanchez’s vocals are established to the melodies of Arturo Garcia Otoreo (samponas, ocean shells, sterling silver flutes, quenas and clay drums) and Cesar Regina (quenas, shakers and clay drums). Performing on hand-made traditional musical instruments, the group, which took its name from the Mayan phrase meaning “guys of sunlight”, faithfully resurrects the noises of historic Peru. Band of Gold premiered in 1999.
