Agricantus

The Palermo, Italy-based worldbeat group Agricantus took their name from the Latin expression for “song from the wheat fields”; their account contains Giuseppe Panzeca (vocals, mandolins, sitar, various other stringed equipment), Tonj Acquaviva (keyboards, examples/coding, vocals, and an enormous selection of percussion equipment) Rosie Wiederkehr (guitar, vocals, examples/coding), Mario Rivera (bass, keyboards, vocals, examples/coding), and Antonjo Corrado (guitar, keyboards). Agricantus’ music combines a dizzying selection of traditional globe music forms from throughout the world not only with one another, but with club-ready digital dance grooves, creating a powerful juxtaposition between previous and brand-new. Their initial U.S. discharge was the 1999 compilation THE VERY BEST of Agricantus.
