African Jazz

Founded in 1953 by Joseph “Le Grand Kalle” Kabasele, African Jazz was the country’s first full-time, professional orchestra. Their high stage was most likely the 1960 launch of “Self-reliance Cha Cha Cha,” which celebrated the finish of colonial guideline in the Belgian Congo. African Jazz’s great musical contribution was to reappropriate Latin American dance rhythms that experienced crossed the Atlantic from Africa hundreds of years before. They disbanded in the middle-’60s after an greatly productive recording profession.
