Afel Bocoum

An essential person in Ali Farka Toure’s music group for a lot more than 3 decades, Afel Bocoum took his initial steps in to the limelight along with his debut single album, Alkibar: Messenger of the fantastic River, in 1999. It had been recorded across the banks from the Niger River, throughout a five-day break from focusing on Toure’s record Niafunke. Alkibar place finger-picked electric guitar melodies and soulful vocals, within the Sonrai, Fula, and Tamashek dialects, to some musical tapestry of lute, monochord njurkle, calabash, spike fiddles, along with a three-voiced choir. The BBC evaluated Bocoum’s performance in the record as “gentler compared to the stabbing blues design of Ali Farka Toure. Bocoum’s audio is certainly poly-rhythmic, warm, and charming with basic magnetic melodies and hummable choruses.” The boy of the njoika and njurkle participant, Bocoum began using Toure, in Troupe Musicale De Niafunke, at age 13. Although he still left the group to review agriculture at M’Pessoba in South Mali, in 1975, he reunited along with his previous coach in Toure’s music group, Asko, in the first ’80s.
