Aethenor

Ambient sludge metallic supergroup Aethenor contain members from the deafening American duo Sunn 0))), English Rock and roll in Opposition-associated act Guapo, and Swiss trance retailers Shora, crossing both worldwide and musical boundaries. The task were only available in 2003, when Sunn 0)))’s guitarist Stephen O’Malley and Shora’s keyboardist and consumer electronics mastermind Vincent de Roguin began spending their down-time during a distributed European tour producing spur-of-the-moment improvisational recordings in resort rooms and various other locations. Following the tour was over, de Roguin and O’Malley convened in de Roguin’s house bottom of Geneva with Guapo’s Daniel O’Sullivan (also a touring person in Sunn 0)))) to form the tour recordings right into a completed task. With O’Sullivan adding Fender Rhodes electrical piano (a musical instrument even more closely connected with 1970s jazz fusion than post-millennial avant rock and roll) and percussion, the trio documented some improvisations within a night and mixed them with the sooner tapes to make the four-part, half-hour Deep in Sea Sunk the Light fixture of Light. O’Sullivan also added the album name, a quote in the Iliad, aswell as the music group name, a portmanteau of what “aether,” the ancient greek language concept of the area above the planet earth inhabited with the gods, and “Athanor,” the name of the furnace in the misconception from the alchemists. Following the discharge of Deep in Sea Sunk the Light fixture of Light over the SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA indie VHF Information in 2006, Aethenor documented two follow-up albums during an all-night program in Geneva, supposedly documented inside a functioning meat locker, so the frosty would affect both players and their equipment. Betimes Dark Cloudmasses, released in Apr 2008, features visitor vocals from Ulver’s Kristoffer Rygg and free of charge improv drummers Alex Babel and Nicolas Field on its three extended untitled tracks; the 3rd album, planned for nov 2008, features vocal and instrumental efforts by David Tibet of Current 93.
