Adam Kolker

Tenor and soprano saxophonist, clarinetist, and flutist Adam Kolker continues to be involved in modern jazz because the mid-’90s, and offers proven himself an able sideman and emerging innovator. Given birth to in Manhattan and elevated in Philadelphia, Kolker gained his B.A. level at the University or college of Miami-Florida and an M.A. at the brand new Britain Conservatory of Music in Boston. He was an associate of musical ensembles assisting various Broadway displays both on tour and in NEW YORK, where he ultimately relocated in 1989. What thrust Kolker in to the limelight was his productive time as an associate of Ray Barretto’s ” NEW WORLD ” Nature Latin jazz combos from 1994 through 2002, at the same time when this music group was nominated for just two Grammys. Recordings with Barretto are the 1995 record My Summertime; the 1997 documenting Get in touch with! for Blue Take note; Barretto’s crowning accomplishment, Portraits in Jazz and Clave for the RCA Victor group in 1999; as well as the 2000 Compact disc Trancedance for the Round Movements label. He in addition has made an appearance with such performers as Orange After that Blue, the Pittsburgh Collective, Gunther Schuller, the Vanguard Jazz and Maria Schneider Orchestras, Kenny Wheeler, Bruce Barth, Rick Margitza, Luciana Souza, Judi Silvano, David Berkman, Bruce Barth, John Hebert, Peter Herborn, Ben Sher, Billy Hart, John Hebert, Brian Ales, Allan Run after, Bobby Previte, Bruce Saunders, Frank Carlberg, Matt Haimovitz, Marc Cohn, Lucia Pulido, yet others. As a head, Kolker’s initial work, Crazy Parrot from 1999 on Problem/A Information, included Tim Hagans, Kevin Hays, Jeff Ballard, and Doug Weiss. Two follow-ups for the Satchmo label included Meditaciones from 2003 (co-led by Catalonian drummer Xavi Maureta) and Sultanic Verses in 2004, including Barretto. The critically acclaimed 2008 documenting Flag Day through the Sunnyside label highlighted John Abercrombie and Paul Motian. A collective work, Change of your time for the Omnitone label, focused on Béla Bartók’s Mikrokosmos. From 1999 to 2007, Kolker proved helpful full-time for the faculty from the College or university of Massachusetts, and in 2008 was an associate from the pit orchestra for the stage play Gypsy.
