Abdel Gadir Salim All-Stars

b. c.1946, Dilling, Sudan. Salim originally educated to become teacher. Nevertheless, in 1971, at that time already an achieved oud (Arabic lute) participant, he was honored a scholarship to review for five years at Sudan’s Institute of Music, where he begun to explore the folk music of Kordofan, the desert area where he was raised. Forming a music group that highlighted saxophones, violin, key pad, electric powered bass and percussion, in addition to his very own deep, earthy tone of voice and virtuoso oud playing, Salim became an instantaneous strike throughout Sudan, where he and his music group performed at celebrations, wedding ceremonies, concerts and nationwide radio broadcasts. He 1st toured internationally in 1986, with fellow Sudanese celebrities Abdel Aziz Un Mubarak and Mohamed Gubara (most of whom consequently featured on Seems Of Sudan). Nujum Al-Lail, his worldwide debut, featured support from a quartet of Sudanese music artists specially brought collectively for the documenting. Nevertheless, the follow-up, The Merdoum Kings Play Tunes Of Love, presented his seven-piece music group in full-blown party feeling. 1999’s Le Blues De Khartoum features the very best of both worlds, with six songs of lush, danceable, full-band materials topped off with a set of acoustic tracks offering just Salim’s tone of voice and ud. Salim combines regular live shows, in and beyond Sudan, along with his day time job because the headmaster of the primary college in neighbouring Chad.
