Aaron Diehl

Pianist and composer Aaron Diehl can be an accomplished jazz musician with a method steeped in the swinging acoustic jazz and classical customs. Blessed in Columbus, Ohio in 1985, Diehl was raised within a musical family members as the grandson of pianist/trombonist Arthur Baskerville. Introduced to piano at age group seven, Diehl initial became thinking about jazz while participating in the Interlochen Great Arts Academy Summer months Camp. A prodigious skill, Diehl performed using the Columbus Youngsters Jazz Orchestra in his teenagers, and was a finalist in the 2002 Jazz at Lincoln Middle Essentially Ellington competition, where he had taken house an “excellent soloist” award. The next year, he recognized an invitation to tour with trumpeter Wynton Marsalis’ septet and signed up for Juilliard’s then recently minted jazz research plan. During his period at Juilliard, Diehl examined with many luminaries, including pianists Kenny Barron and Eric Reed. Also during this time period, he garnered many even more accolades including earning the 2003 Jazz Arts Group Hank Marr Jazz Competition and Lincoln Center’s esteemed Martin E. Segal Prize in 2004. In 2006, a calendar year before graduating Juilliard, he released his debut record, Mozart Jazz, on Japan’s Pony Canyon label. The concert record Live at Caramoor implemented two years afterwards. Diehl then made an appearance on vocalist Cecile McLorin Salvant’s extremely lauded debut, 2013’s WomanChild, and released his sophomore record as a head, 2013’s The Bespoke Man’s Narrative, on Mack Avenue. In 2015, Diehl came back along with his third studio room album, Space Period Continuum, which highlighted performances from saxophonist Benny Golson among others.
