A. P. Herbert

b. Alan Patrick Herbert, 24 Sept 1890, Elsted, Surrey, Britain, d. 11 November 1971, London, Britain. Graduating from Oxford College or university, Herbert served within the Royal Navy during Globe Battle I. Admitted towards the pub in 1918, he thereafter worked well like a barrister and had written prolifically. His books include The Magic formula Battle (1919), THE HOME WITH THE River (1921) as well as the Drinking water Gipsies (1930). For 60 years he added to Punch, satirizing the judicial program with ‘Misleading Instances In THE NORMAL Law’. They were brought to existence by BBC tv with Misleading Instances (1967-71). From 1935-50 Herbert was Individual Person in Parliament for Oxford College or university. Additionally, he had written some 15 takes on and added lyrics and sometime the publication for a number of comic operas, including Riverside Evenings (1926), La Vie Parisienne (1929), Tantivy Towers (1931, music by Thomas Frederick Dunhill), and Derby Day time (1932). The second option presented music by Alfred Reynolds and went for 132 shows. Also in 1932 Herbert modified and published lyrics for Helen!, based on La Belle Hélène, that Erich Wolfgang Korngold organized Jacques Offenbach’s initial music. This went for 104 shows. Herbert also collaborated with Louis Levy around the screenplay for the film musical Waltz Period (1933), starring Evelyn Laye. Herbert frequently collaborated with composer Vivian Ellis. This started in earnest with tunes they published for the 1934 revue, Streamline, notably ‘Additional People’s Infants’, sung within the display by Norah Howard. After Globe Battle II, Herbert, who was simply knighted in 1945, offered publication and lyrics for Ellis’ Big Ben (1946) and Bless The Bride-to-be (1947).
