Math-rock trio A Forest shaped in SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA in 1992, and comprised guitarist/vocalist Erik Hoversten, bassist John Trevor Benson and drummer Andee Connors. Forging a loud, melancholy sound nearer in nature to midwestern post-rock compared to the dominating punk aesthetic from the Bay Region, the band battled to create a regional following, so when an present to record an LP finally came, it came thanks to Chicago-based Thrill Jockey. Documented by Steve Albini, A Forest’s debut LP Flemish Altruism (Constituent Parts 1993-1996) gained strong critical see, and following a group of singles and compilation paths, the group released Inindependence 2 yrs later on.
