Originally started simply by former Neutral Dairy Hotel drummer Jeremy Barnes, A Hawk along with a Hacksaw released its self-titled debut, which Barnes played all of the instruments and which explored 20th century American music, in 2004 about Leaf Records. Another season, after enlisting help from tuba participant Tag Weaver, trumpeter Dan Clucas, and violinist Heather Trost, Barnes as well as the music group released Darkness at Noon, that was recorded within the U.K. and in Barnes’ indigenous Albuquerque, New Mexico, and delved into both Eastern Western european and American folk music. Ever the traveller, Barnes visited Romania for the group’s (that was by this time around simply him and Trost) third record, where he documented songs for this using the Gypsy brass music group Fanfare Ciocarlia. What sort of Wind flow Blows, which continuing A Hawk along with a Hacksaw’s custom of generally instrumental fare, was after that released in 2006. That same season, Trost and Barnes shifted to Budapest, Hungary, where they completely immersed themselves within the Eastern Western european musical custom by playing and documenting with the neighborhood Hun Suspendár Outfit, leading to 2007’s critically acclaimed EP A Hawk along with a Hacksaw & the Hun Hangar Outfit and its own 2009 sibling, Deliverance. The Spanish and Mexican-influenced Cervantine, the group’s 5th album and initial release alone imprint, L.M. Dupli-Cation, found its way to March 2011. Released in 2013, the sprawling You HAVE PREVIOUSLY Gone to another World featured first music constructed for Sergei Parajanov’s 1964 feature film Shadows of Neglected Ancestors.
