Although most widely known for their later-’90s contemporary rock one “Little Dark Backpack,” Stroke 9 formed one decade prior within the SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA Bay Region. While finishing senior high school in 1989, vocalist/guitarist Luke Esterkyn and bassist Greg Gueldner opted to create a music group for extra credit. The task was shelved once the music artists left town to wait separate schools, but Heart stroke 9 resumed its speed several years afterwards, with John McDermott and Stephen Heath rounding out the lineup. The music group self-released a debut LP, Boy Fits Female, in 1993, implemented two years afterwards by Bumper to Bumper. After drummer Eric Share climbed aboard to stabilize the band’s lineup, Heart stroke 9 agreed upon to Universal’s Cherry imprint and preceded the discharge of the 1999 major-label debut, Nasty Small Thoughts, with an appearance within the Ron Howard humor EdTV. In market dominated by platinum-selling teenager pop acts, Heart stroke 9 flipped some mind by sending Nasty Small Thoughts to platinum position in early 2000. “Small Black Back pack” was the album’s focus on, mixing a melancholic post-grunge verse having a buoyant pop chorus. The group’s comparative achievement allowed them release a two additional information for Common, 2001’s eponymous Heart stroke 9 and 2002’s Rip It Off, before issuing 2004’s All In on an unbiased label. Cafe Slashes: A Assortment of Acoustic Favorites showed up that same yr, and an all-new assortment of tunes, Last from the International Playboys, prolonged the band’s shelf existence into 2007.
